This album came out in 2015 technically but it became my soundtrack to 2016. This was the album I kept hearing even when I wasn't listening TO it. Dark and haunting in spots, sparse and flawed in all the right ways. Poetic snapshots of small town America kept me along for the ride quite often but many of the melodies are exquisite and unforgettable. Not to mention Dave Cobb's production here which is incredible! The sounds aren't overly effected and that keeps things feeling natural with a sense of 70's singer/songwriter craftsmanship. I'm a sucker for that decade so it hits me in a soft spot. Anyway, I love this record so much I'm spending my NYE at The Opry this evening and it's about time to roll. Here's to Something More Than Free and here's to hoping he goes heavy on this album tonight Everybody be safe out there as we put 2016 behind us and look forward to what 2017 holds! #nye2016
